Decided to stop posting income reports

I decided to stop posting income reports. As you can see from my previous post, my revenue kept increasing and is somewhat stable, even though I didn’t make any updates to my games. So why keep posting same reports every month? I will only post a report if anything surprising happens. 🙂

You might have already noticed that my games are not that cool! Yet I keep getting downloads and reviews. This shows that even though you make a simple game, you can still get amazing number of downloads. That too with no marketing at all!

So stop looking at all these income reports from other developers and start working on your own apps. COMPLETE IT. AND RELEASE IT! You will definitely reach your goals and get amazing downloads.

I will continue posting on this blog about my adventures. Mostly about game/app development and some useful articles. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

I bought an iPad Mini!

As the title says I recently bought an iPad Mini 16 GB (Wifi) version. I am an Android guy but iOS is cool too. Only thing I hate is everything is locked. I can’t view my files directly, there’s no file manager. I have to use iTunes crap to upload files to my device. Heck I can’t even send a text file to my iPad directly. Other than that its a nice device. Games and apps run very smoothly without any lag unlike my old Android phone LG P350 😛 . Here’s a picture for you:

So Mad logic Games coming soon to iOS 😀 . I’ll post the next Income Report and more about my plans on 10th October.

Unity Mobile Deployment is now Free Android iOS Basic for Free

During the Unity’s Unite Nordic Conference (May 21-22) David Helgason shared some pretty big news already – Mobile Game deployment with Unity is now free! More details will be announced soon. So now we will be able to deploy apps to Android and iOS platforms for free. Though some restrictions apply since its only the Basic version we are getting for free. We will be able to make applications, games and publish them onto the App Stores for free, no revenue share etc, just $100k cap on earnings of your company, after which they ask us to buy Pro version of Unity.

I found this information on their facebook page. And it was confirmed by the Page Admin too. Which is a Good news for all the people who want to get into Mobile game development! Unity is one of the best Game development Engine which is easy to use and has a lots of documentation to help the developers understand how to make games(Most of the famous 3D mobile games were made with Unity like Subway Surfers,Temple Run,Bad Piggies,Dead Trigger 2). The support is good too. Then there are Unity forums where you can post your doubts and questions and many people will answer them. I will definitely start using the basic Android version and develop some simple 3D games once it hits the Unity store. Currently the store is down, maybe they are upgrading it to change the pricing! I am so excited to try it out. What about you?

First game was released a month ago

Its been a month since I released my first game (Box Game) into the Android Play Store. The game was published on 10 March 2013 and surprisingly I didn’t get any downloads till March 13th :(. I WhatsApp’ed all my friends who own android phones to download and rate my game. I hate to ask my friends, but since I got no downloads for my game on which I really worked hard, I had to ask them. As I expected only few of them appreciated my work and gave 5 star ratings, some just ignored my message, others said they were busy and will download it later and forgot about it! After all the help I did to them I could’t believe their response. After 16 ratings and reviews from them I started getting downloads. That day I got 74 downloads. Downloads then dropped to 5-10 a day. Very low downloads when compared to other games/apps.

Don’t know the reason why my game is not doing well in the Play Store. Even games which were not so good as mine were getting much better downloads per day! I guess its due to my app name: “Box Game”. I included the word “game” because I thought it would increase my downloads, but I was wrong I guess. When you search for ‘Box game’ with quotes excluded you won’t find my game on first page! So my guess is the term “game” is just ignored and the app is ranking only from the term “Box”. So don’t make the same mistake that I did. Never ever include include the term “game” in your app name. On April 6th downloads suddenly increased to 183 and graph stayed there for 3 days now. Not bad! 😀

On March 29th I published my second game which is called “Egg Bounce“. Immediately asked my friends again to download and rate it. Got just 2 ratings though! Best friends ever! Decided not to disturb/spam them again with my shitty games. This game unlike my first game had no levels in it. You just play endlessly to get the highest score. But it had better graphics and sounds. This game is getting 0-15 downloads per day. Lets see how it does next month.

The revenue generated from these apps is just 3.83$. Its very low but its been just a month and my downloads were low. I also started working on a third game now. Will release it next month hopefully. Just noticed that Box Game reached a total of 1000 downloads!

Next post will be a detailed report about the ads, requests and revenue. By the way I’m using ONLY AdMob in both games.

Journey starts – Goals set

My goal is to start earning 1000$ per month from my games within two years(2013-2015) from now. I have two more years till I graduate and I decided to reach my goal of making 1000$ per month from my games/apps within these two years. So that I can go for higher studies in US and maybe start my own company there if the revenue increases. Why start own company? Since I am from India after graduation we are forced to get a job and work for hours just to make a mere 5000$ per year! Other than a job other option is to go abroad(US) for higher studies(masters in Computer Science) which will cost a lot and I don’t think my parents are ready to spend such amount of money. Two more years will decide my future, either to settle with 5k a year or work hard, earn 1k per month and settle abroad.

At first I started game development just for fun as a hobby. I worked very hard trying to learn programming and design stuff all by myself from the free tutorials online, on my way I even had to compromise my studies (scored 66% out of 100 😦 ). Within months I released two Android games into Play Store and earned 3$ in the first month. 3$ is very low, but its just the first month and I can see the potential! I will try to develop more better games and work harder to reach my goals.

These are my goals that I set for this year (2013):

  • Get good marks this year in college ( Atleast 70% / 100 )
  • Start earning 50$ per month from August 2013
  • Release 8 more games into Play Store by August 2013

So the journey begins! I will keep you updated about my journey to success.
