Android Development Income Report December 2013

Happy New Year! December 2013 is the best month so far! Remember last month I said the same thing. Income has improved again. 😀

December Revenue 2013

December Revenue 2013

Like I said last month my revenue almost doubled this month. All Thanks to Christmas and Holiday season. This is quite common. Every developer’s revenue get doubled during this time, so there’s nothing to be surprised.

I also did a silent launch of my game Traffic Crossing to iTunes Apple App Store. I didn’t concentrate much on the ads, store listing and screenshots. I just wanted to publish the app before Christmas. I was in a hurry because App Store closes from December 21 to 27. You can’t publish apps during this time. So I wanted to publish the app on 20th and see how many downloads I get! I didn’t even add any ads. Just one exit interstitial ad which has very less CTR (Click Through Rate).  As expected that generated just $40 revenue. But the downloads were amazing. Here are some statistics for downloads from December 20 to January 9 :

iOS App Downloads

iOS App Downloads

So a total of 10,697 Unique downloads in 20 days! Now I feel I should have added ads to the app. 😦  Notice the spike in downloads in the middle? That was on January 1st. I also received few reviews from users. I observed that most of the people from US rate the app just 4. For them 4 is the best they can give to a normal looking app. While people from other countries seemed to give 5 stars just like in Android Play Store.

I also started working on a new 2D game in Unity3D. Its hard to learn a new game engine but slowly I am getting used to it. This month I will try to publish all my games to iTunes store properly with good screenshots. And also add AdMob ads to them (both banner and interstitials). So my next test will be how the other apps perform during normal days(not during holidays). Stay tuned!

I managed to do  a lot of work in the last few months and looking forward for more! 2013 has been a busy and exciting year, and 2014 is looking to be even more exciting. Have a happy New Year! Hope you reach whatever goals you set. Good luck. 🙂

Android Development Income Report October 2013

Sorry for the late report. I am having exams right now. Revenue is pretty good. I am back to business 🙂 :

October Revenue

October Revenue

This is the second highest income report till now. And I didn’t do any changes to apps or description. No SEO too. The downloads increased for my game Traffic Crossing in organic way. Maybe because I have been getting good ratings and reviews from users.

Things I did in past months:

Learnt about Unity 3D game development. I can now write some simple C# scripts and build a 3D game.

Things I didn’t do: 😛

  • Didn’t work on any new games
  • Didn’t publish games to iOS App Store

Things I want to do:

  • Work on a new game with a Christmas theme. Planning to release it before Christmas.
  • Publish games to iOS
  • Learn to build a 2D game with Unity 3D (see below for more info)

I am currently very busy with my exams. I have exams till 25th November 😦 . I can’t work on anything now. After my exams I will immediately publish to iOS. I always heard iOS Store is better and we can earn more revenue. But we have to see if I can get same amount of downloads as Google Play Store. I have a cool idea for a simple game based on Christmas theme (snowmen, snow related). It will not be a complex game, just a  simple 2D platformer with few levels.

Then I will build a 2D game with Unity 3D. I always wanted to try out new game engines, and though Unity 3D is a 3D engine, today they released a new version (Unity 4.3) specially supporting 2D too. Read more about it here: http://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new . Since 2D is easier to develop than 3D (designing 3D models) , I will start off with a simple 2D game, or maybe remake my first game in Unity.

Finally my advise to those of you who want to get into app/game development, my suggestion is try Unity first, it’s FREE, easy to use, has large supporting community, has a huge asset store for models and customisation, constantly provides new updates and free content (recently they made exporting to XBox One free), now they even added official support for 2D, which sounds great for any Indie developer.

Wait for more awesome posts. I will start posting a lot from November 25th. So stay tuned.
